Laundry detergent
This one's a little different — the strongest evidence here is environmental, and I want to be straight about that. Some detergents use surfactants called NPEs that break down into nonylphenol, a compound that's persistent and estrogenic in waterways; the EU restricts them in washable textiles under REACH. So the cleanest reason to switch is the water you're sending down the drain — plus the same undisclosed-"fragrance" point from the kitchen.
Look for instead: plant-based surfactants, "readily biodegradable," and a fragrance that's disclosed or skipped. A little goes a long way with a concentrate.
How strong is the evidence? Strong environmentally — the EU restriction is a hard fact; thinner on personal health at everyday consumer exposure, so I lead with the waterways, not your body.
